Discover the richness and beauty of Sanskrit and gain insight into common mantras and shlokas

An introduction to the Sanskrit language, including Devanagari alphabet, pronunciation and basic grammar. Grammar learning will proceed through discrete lessons and exercises week by week.

The word Sanskrit itself means something like "perfectly made", and it's an amazing system that connects the human voice and breath to the voice and breath of the cosmos. The Sanskrit language is written in Devanāgarī script, for which my poetic translation is "city of living stars".

In this course we will learn to recognize and draw the Devanāgarī characters and vocalize the sounds that they represent. We will also explore some basic grammar and vocabulary to give you a sense of the language's conceptual framework. And we will review some common mantras and their meanings.
